Cathedral Parish for the Diocese of Lexington, KY

The Vocations Crucifix Program is open to all parishioners who would like to host the crucifix in their home for a week and pray for vocations each day.
To sign up to host the crucifix, please go to our Sign Up Genius page and follow the instructions there.
1. How do I sign up to host the Vocations Crucifix?
To sign up, please follow this link to our Sign Up Genius page and follow the instructions there.
2. Where do I pick up the crucifix?
The crucifix is kept in the Sacristy. This is the room where the priests' vestments are kept. On the far end of the room, between the pew and the three stairs down, is a small white bookshelf. The crucifix should be sitting there (see the picture at the top of this page). Don't forget to pick up one of the prayer card as well!
3. When do I pick up the Vocations Crucifix?
Pick it up when you are at the cathedral for Mass on the weekend you are assigned. Reminders usually have the Sunday date on it, but you can also pick it up on Saturday evening.
4. There are no prayer cards left, what prayer should I say?
If there are no prayer cards left when you pick up the crucifix, email Rob at [email protected] so he can restock them. In the meantime, any vocations prayer will be fine (many are available online). There may also be prayer cards with the Diocese of Lexington Vocation Prayer on it in the Adoration Chapel. Most months the Vocations Prayer is also printed in the King's Connection, the parish's newsletter.
5. What types of vocations are we praying for? Is it only for more priests?
We pray for all vocations! The prayer we use is the Diocese of Lexington Vocation Prayer, which asks the three persons of the Trinity to help us discern our mission and give us courage to say "Yes" to whatever God asks of us. There are six specific intentions incorporated into the pray, one each for the first six months of the year and then they are repeated for the last six months of the year. The intentions are:
Jan/Jul: ... all those discerning.
Feb/Aug: ... our seminarians.
Mar/Sep: ... our religious.
Apr/Oct: ... our marriages.
May/Nov: ... all single persons.
Jun/Dec: ... our priests & deacons.
6. How or when do I return the crucifix?
Please return the crucifix so that it can be there for all the Masses the next weekend. Preferably, return the crucifix on the next Friday after you pick it up. So if you pick it on on Sunday Nov. 26, you will return it on Friday Dec. 1. You can return it back to the sacristy where you had picked it up. If the office at the O'Neill Center is open, you can return it there and the receptionist will get it back to the Sacristy. The office closes at 3pm most Fridays and may be closed around holy days or other holidays.
If you are unable to return the crucifix on Friday, please bring it back sometime Saturday morning. DO NOT bring it to the O'Neill Center, please return it directly to the sacristy.
7. Will I get a reminder about when I signed up?
Yes. Currently, there is a reminder in the bulletin each week. That reminder will list the volunteer for that week and the next week. Check there each week so you know when your week is coming up.
The Sign Up Genius website will also send you a reminder 3 days prior to when you are supposed to pick it up.
8. I forgot to pick it up, what do I do?
If you forget to pick it up, don't worry. It should still be there. Try to stop in sometime Sunday afternoon or even sometime on Monday or Tuesday. Make it an opportunity to attend daily Mass on Monday!
9. It's my week to host, but the Vocations Crucifix wasn't there. What do I do?
Please contact Rob at [email protected] if this happens. Sometimes it's as simple as someone forgot it or brought it back during the weekend Masses instead of before. Rob can usually track it down and it might just mean an extra trip back to church that day or the next (unless you know the person/family).
